Crash Boom Zowie

I was sitting in my recliner in the living room a few hours ago, writing and listening to the rain through the open windows, when I suddenly heard a loud crack. As I watched, a huge limb slowly came off the pine tree by the side of the house and crashed onto the ground.

Mind you, it was only raining! No lightning, no major winds. I have no idea why it suddenly decided to come down. But thankfully, it missed the house by about four feet (from the tips of the branches, the largest piece of limb is a bit further than that) and the only damage it did was to crush a few berry bushes whose season ended a week ago.

I feel very lucky.

If a tree falls in the yard, and it doesn't hit your house, did it still fall? Um, yes. Yes it did.

  1. Wow! I'm so glad it didn't hit the house or cause any harm or damage (except to the poor berry bushes).

    1. I'll admit it was a little alarming as I heard the sound (which one immediately recognizes on a gut level as NOT GOOD) and then watched the limb slowly sway down.

And I will have to wait to see what the bushes look like once the tree is removed, but thankfully, berry bushes are quite tough!

  2. ACK! Poor tree!! Will the trunk need to be sealed with pitch to keep oogies out? I'm so glad it missed you and the house and FGBVs to the berry bushes. Wee scratchy little buggers.

    1. I hadn't thought about sealing the tree, but that's not a bad idea. I'll have to do some research or talk to someone who knows more about trees than I do...

And thankfully, berry bushes are fairly resilient. I suspect they'll bounce back by next year.

  3. That is so strange!! The same thing happened to my husband on Saturday night only he was rounding up cows that'd broke through the fence. Walking through the woods, he heard a loud crack and then popping sound. Not ten feet from where he stood a large limb hit the ground. Also no wind, minimal rain and the lightening was still far to the south. Weird...
