Feline Friday and ALMANAC WINNER!

First things first! The winner of the contest for a copy of one of the new Llewellyn Almanacs is...
*drumroll, please*
MELISSA, who said "I would love the Witches' Almanac--they're always so useful and interesting to read."
Melissa, email me at magicmysticminerva at yahoo and tell me if you wanted the Witches' Companion or the Magical Almanac :-) [And give me an address to send it to.]

In other news, it is Friday morning, and the workmen fixing my basement steps and building a new deck started banging outside my window at 7:30, I have a headache, and the post-root canal pain has hit its height. Thank goodness it is Feline Friday!

On the bright side, I had a lovely chat yesterday with my Berkley editor about edits (yikes!) and I'm going to be awfully close to finishing BABA YAGA 2 by the end of the weekend, if all goes well.

Question for my blog readers: I know some of you are aspiring authors (well, you're AUTHORS now, you're aspiring to be published). Do you want to know more about the journey and how things work once one actually gets the agent, the publisher, the book contract, etc?

That's it for me...I hope you have a lovely weekend, and big congrats to Melissa!

Here are your cute cat pics:
Angus, wishing you a happy Friday with his foxy little smile.
Angus and Samhain chumming it up together.
Magic the Cat, eating a piece of nectarine. Yes, you heard me. I have a cat that eats fruit. In fact, Magic loves fruit so much, she will steal strawberries, raspberries or blueberries out of my bowl or off the counter. (I can't actually leave a basket of fruit on the counter. Because the cat will get it. Go figure.) I call her my little fruit bat :-)

  1. Yay! Congratulations Melissa!!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Also, would you mind if I pinched Angus? It's been 8 months since I lost my ginger and white lad, and I miss him terribly. Love the fact Magic likes fruit! Funnily enough, Moby was a little odd when it came to food, can you believe he adored curry? We used to catch him with his face in the take-out bags, he would emerge with curry covered chops:)

    1. Curry! That even beats Magic's fruit habit. And yes, feel free to pinch Angus (although he's skittish, so don't be surprised if he runs away). I'm sorry you lost your ginger kitty. *hugs*

  2. I would love to hear about the process.
Also can't wait to read Baba Yaga1.
Happy Friday to the cats and their human!

    1. I'm going to start talking about the Baba Yaga books a little bit more as things start moving along...

  3. Sorry about your tooth pain. I thought the root canal was supposed to put an end to the pain? Why does it still hurt? (Of course, it's been a long time since my last root canal, so maybe I'm not remembering it.)

Your cats are adorable and I love that Magic eats fruit! Last night, over at friends' house, their black kitty jumped up on the table and began eating the remnants of tart crust and bits of lemon tart from the plates. Then he tried to make off with the last mini-creampuff; he'd have made it if he hadn't dropped it!

    1. That is the idea, Skye. Unfortunately, doing the root canal itself is so violent, it irritates the surrounding bone and nerves, and it takes some time for that to die down. (I kid you not, the last one I had, it was MONTHS before it stopped aching. But at least the drastically bad part was over after a couple of weeks. I think.)

    2. When I had my last root canals the endodontist premedicated with one tylenol and one ibuprophin (combining is not recommended for routine doses). He said that 1) getting them into the system before the procedure meant that they were there to hit the resulting inflammation immediately and 2) the reason for both was that they work on different kinds of inflammation.
After two teeth _one with 3 roots and one with two - done at once, I was able to do a 5 hour drive the next day on nothing but 3 ibuprophins every 4 hours!

Never had to use the prescription pain killer!

    3. I took 600 mg of ibu that morning, but it had worn off by the 2 PM appt. Because of all the procedures, I've been taking ibu about 3x day for a couple of weeks. My stomach is NOT happy.

  4. Yay! Thank you Lisa for the congratulations -- I'm very excited! And thanks to Deborah for posting the adorable kitteh pictures -- love Magic eating the nectarine! I have one who is very interested in berries. She hasn't eaten them yet -- to my knowledge -- but she likes to bat them out of the bowl and carry them around in her mouth. Silly kitty!

    1. Congrats, Melissa! And for anyone whose cat (or dog) likes fruit, beware that you shouldn't allow them to have grapes or raisins. (Both of which Magic also likes.) They can have a fungus on them which might make a person ill, but can kill a small animal.

    2. Melissa, you still need to email me with your mailing address and tell me which almanac you wanted.

  5. Sure hope the pain goes away soon from the root canal! Nothing quite like mouth pain...

I would LOVE to see and hear more about the writer's journey and what happens afterward.

Kitties are funny people, aren't they? Magic is truly unique. One of my kitties will literally dive into a bowl of vanilla ice cream, and she's been known to eat tomatoes. Go figure.

Thanks for sharing such good stuff on your blogs. They're a treat to read!

    1. Lori, Magic eats tomatoes and avocados too. She's so smart, she obviously knows they are classified as fruits, not vegetables :-)
