KINDLE FIRE HD7 Giveaway!

I can't believe that VEILED MAGIC is out in less than two weeks! In case you haven't been around lately (in which case you missed a bunch of other great giveaways, but at least you're here for this one), VEILED MAGIC is an urban fantasy book that's an entirely different series from the Baba Yaga books. At least, it will be a new series if it sells well. At the moment, it is just a cool book to  hold you over until WICKEDLY POWERFUL come out in February, but I think you'll like it.

Here's the blurb:

A spellbinding new novel from the author of the Baba Yaga novelsSince Witches came out of the broom-closet in the early 21st century, they have worked alongside humans as police officers, healers, stock traders, and more. But they aren’t the only paranormal entities in our world…

Police officer and Witch Donata Santori spends her days interrogating dead witnesses by summoning their spectral forms. Normally the job is little more than taking statements and filing reports. But when she’s called in on the case of a murdered art restorer, she finds herself suddenly in possession of a mystical portrait that both the human and paranormal communities would kill to get their hands on.

Unable to take on the forces hunting her alone, Donata seeks help from two unlikely and attractive allies: a reluctant shape-changer and a half-dragon art forger. But as the three of them hurry to uncover the truth about the powerful painting, Donata realizes that she’s caught in the middle of not one but two wars—one for possession of the painting’s secrets and one for possession of her heart…

Plus some buy links, you know, in case you feel the urge...

There's only one little thing--Berkley is putting this one out as an eBook only (unless it does spectacularly well). Now if you don't have an eReader, you can still buy it on Amazon and download the free Kindle app so you can read it on your computer.

Or, you can enter this contest.

In honor of the eBook only nature of VEILED MAGIC, I decided to go a little crazy and give away this:

Yes, that's a brand new, never been out of the box, KINDLE FIRE HD 7. Plus a $10 Amazon gift card, so the lucky winner can buy a copy of Veiled Magic to read on his or her new toy.

As always, no purchase is necessary (although if you want to preorder Veiled Magic or Wickedly Powerful, you can earn a few extra points that way). If you want credit for posting a review, it has to be a new one, dated today or after--but it can be for ANY book I've written. You can copy an Amazon review you wrote previously and post it on Goodreads or B&N, too.

Obviously, the point of this--besides rewarding one of my fabulous readers--is to spread the word about VEILED MAGIC as far as we can. You'll help me with that, right?

Because this is such a huge giveaway, it will be running through Friday November 13th. (That seemed fitting, somehow.) The "Tweet about the contest" option can be used every day. I'll announce the winner on the 14th. I'll probably also put up flash giveaways here on the blog, on Twitter, and on Facebook right up until Veiled Magic comes out on the 17th, so be sure to check often!

Tell me in the comments: Do you prefer to read in print, eBook, or both? And good luck!

  2. I like both but prefer print - except when I travel. Can't beat the Kindle for being able to carry multiple books that won't get you charged by the pound on the plane!

    1. That's too true! Although I still like to have a paper book on planes...it's my blankie :-)

  3. I really do think both have merits. when traveling I love having my kindle. I have so many books fo choose from and I only have to carry around one item (as opposed to the multitude of books I used to carry with me). I do also think that the ebook format has given so many writers the chance to publish their works. Print publishing is so difficult to break into and I love that new or small time authors can have their voices heard by publishing ebooks. But I will always adore print. The smell and feel cannot be replicated.

  4. I prefer print as my Kindle broke & my laptop doesn't like to e-books. That being said, if I do pick up an e-book & really enjoy it, then it's bought in book form for others to notice on shelf.

  5. Both...pretty much any form I can get my hands on.

  6. Gee my birthday is the 12th and my favorite gift is books...could I get so lucky!

  7. There is nothing quite like holding a physical book in your hands, though I will use an eReader if that is all that is available to me.

  8. Thank for doing these amazing giveaways and no matter what I'm really excited about new reading material from you!!

  9. I can't wait! i have the original kindle and would be nice to upgrade.

  10. I prefer to actually hold a book in my hands, but I am coming around to e-Books.

  13. I really enjoy reading printed books, but my four bookshelfs can´t fit any more of them! So I have been thinking that Kindle would save up much space ;)

  14. I am leaving a post here as to what an AWESOME author and person Deborah Blake is. I have no device to Tweet with, but I am hooked. Her Tarot readings are spot on and her books are enchanting!!! I thank the Universe for putting her in my life!!

  15. I still like a regular good old fashion book. Hope to have a Kindle someday to read all those books by Deborah Blake that are only available by ebook

  18. I love real books. I love the feel of them and the smell of them. But ebooks are very convenient and easy to read on the bus. So I like both.

  19. I prefer the e-books, as my home was running out of room with all of the books I had.

  20. I prefer print. I have trouble reading books on my laptop. Of course I've never tried using an ebook reader.....

    1. I don't like to read on my laptop (at least in part because I am always reading my manuscripts and others' on there, and in part because it isn't very comfortable). But I have to confess that I am fond on my ereader these days, although it will never replace print for me.

  21. I'm a born again ebook lover - already pre-ordered Veiled Magic :D

  22. I love both ebooks and print books, pretty much any kind of book is good for me. Now I just buy the print books I really want to keep and use my Kobo e-reader to read the books that I just want to read but don't necessarily want a print copy of.

    1. That's mostly what I do. I buy books in print that I think I will read again, or that are in series by favorite authors where I have the rest in print already.

  23. I love print books, but also love ebooks. I can take more ebooks with me a lot more easily. :)

  24. I love both. I can't pass a book display without buying one.
I love ereaders for vacations, the beach,

  25. Although there is something truly magickal about curling up in a big fluffy chair turning the pages of a good book, the e-reader is a great way to carry favorite books when traveling. But I prefer to read actual print.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I tend to buy ebooks more often because I have limited shelf space but I love both print and ebooks.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I really love reading from a book. The feel of the page between my finger tips, the scent of the paper.. it is almost spiritual at times.
I would definitely make use of a kindle though, to obtain those books which I cannot access in print.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I still prefer print books over eBooks, but due to a very very limited book budget, I tend to read/buy eBooks now.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I really like paperbooks for the ones that I am going to keep forever for my own library. Otherwise I don't mind reading on kindle paperwhite. There are times that I just can't afford or find it then I go to my local public library.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have surprised myself.... I have always been a paperbook person but I have really been enjoying ebooks lately.
I recently bought a used kindle for cheap to try the eBook experience. I am finding that with my kindle, I am reading more ( it fits perfectly in my purse) and trying alot more authors that are self published..

My favourite authors ( yes, you are on that list), I will always buy the physical book.

  31. E readers are awesome but there's something magical about having a bookshelf stocked with books ! One day I hope to have my own library filled with witchy books ! - Franny Dent.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I still prefer reading books. I like how they feel in my hand and being able to really turn a page. But the e reader makes it easier to take books with me when I go on a trip I only have to take the one item and it has lots of books in it, rather than a whole sack of books that take up a lot of space in the car.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I prefer both!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love the convenience of the E-reader but still must have books with real live pages as well. You never know when you'll need to write a little note in the margins.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Amazing giveaway! Thank you. :) I will always love the experience of reading a physical book, but for having options while travelling or moving around through the day, an e-reader is great! I also love that libraries are lending e-books too, and I'm happy to support that!

  36. I'm a book purist who was tricked into areader by a job that left hours of down time but I couldn't use a book. Now I do much of my reading on digital because of pain issues.

  37. ooo this sounds like a spectacular book. Must have. The Kindle would be a definite bonus as mine is almost six years old. I am a book-a-holic and prefer paper but the ebooks are much more portable sometimes. Blessings, Miss Deborah! ~Rain

  38. I need both. I like a back-lit e-reader so I can read without a light on - better for my husband, who is not an all-night reader. :) But curled up on the couch, or in the tub - obviously - nothing beats paper and ink.

  39. I collect print books of all types and they are a passion for me, but for everyday reading I mostly used ebooks. I also love ebooks for traveling - I used to spend more time worrying over what books I could take on a trip than what clothes. Also I like to read in bed so my husband loves when I read ebooks.

Can't wait to read Veiled Magic!

  40. I like both. I collect autographed First Editions, but when it comes to reading, I prefer ebooks. My hubs got tired of building bookshelves for me, so I got a Nook even though I switched grudgingly. Now I love ebooks!

  42. Omgosh, how did I miss these. I've ordered both and will be looking at the rest of your book list. I can do either. I like the convenience of the kindle or my phone, But on a cold snowy or damp cloudy day, I much prefer curling up with a solid book with pages i can turn. And, I'm afraid to read my kindle in the bathtub.

    1. I have a plastic "envelope" for my Kindle in the tub. It still makes me nervous, so I take a paperback in there instead.

  43. I really like both. There is nothing quite like having a print book in your hands. But it is convenient to be able to instantly have an eBook right on your computer screen to read. Would love the Kindle!

  47. I prefer a real book :) but, since some of my favorite authors have books that are only available in an e-book format (ahem.. looking pointedly at Deborah Blake.. ;) I have ventured out of my comfort zone~

  51. I like both. I spend way too much money at our local Half Price Books, and on Amazon books to read on my phone. :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. My preference is definitely for print - I'm old school - and I don't have an eReader. However, I can see the convenience, and have been wanting one for awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  53. They both have their perks, I enjoy them both. Ebook, you always have the book with you and tends to be cheaper. But I love having a printed book in my hands, the smell is just...amazing and if feels so much better than holding an electronic device.

  54. I like printed version mostly but ebook is also very handy sometimes

  58. I prefer the feel of a paperback in my hands and nothing beats the smell of a book or library; however, e-readers are just SO convenient. All those books you can carry with you on one device and you don't have to worry about running out of shelf space!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I prefer books, but that's probably because I've never owned an e-reader before.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Both are so convenient to have around, but while you are waiting for a print copy of a book to arrive, an e-book can help you get a head start on it! :D

    ReplyDelete
  64. Both! I love ebooks, you can read them anywhere and anytime. But paper is great too, it's a little easier to get lost in them I find.

  67. As a former librarian I was hard to convert to E readers. But, my husband is a techie and as I have literally hundreds of books and shelves in every room in house, I decided to give it a try. I became hooked. I forgot what I was reading on. Took it in bath with me , wherever a hard copy would go , it went too. So easy to spend $ , books are right there. But, I love a couple of the apps i have , scribd and kindle unlimited , each are between 8-10$ a month . Much cheaper than what I was spending. Between the two I can usually find what I want ,sometimes I need to buy if it's a new book or just not available . I prefer hard copies of books have lots of photos, a lot of books on the craft ..I'm reading on iPhone now , as my kindles little charger thingy is broken , waiting for birthday for new 1. Love books no matter how or where their read. Usually I forget where I am much less what I'm reading on !

    ReplyDelete
  68. I prefer print but read both. It's nice to take my Kindle somewhere and have a huge selection of books to read at any time.

If I forget my Kindle I have the Kindle app on my phone. I read on that when I'm with the kids at a doctor appointments.

  69. There is nothing better than the smell and feel of a book in your hands. BUT...it's pretty awesome to carry a gazillion around with you in your bag and not break your back! I'm saying both!
