Curious about My Readers

I'm getting ready to write up some new posts--I have a few ideas spinning around in my head--and it occurred to me to wonder about the core interests of those who follow this blog or show up regularly. After all, I blog about all sorts of things, including writing, witchcraft, and of course, cats.

So if you look to the left at the top of the blog, you will see I have put up a new poll. If you are a writer (or interesting in writing topics, I suppose) click that option. Pagans and witches, there's one for you too. If you only show up for the cat pictures, click that. [MAGIC, step away from the computer!]

You can also choose any combination of answers. If none of them suit you, or if you have something to add, you can say so in the comments. Don't worry, there's no wrong answer. The poll will be up for a week.

So, tell me...who are YOU?

  1. I think my favorite posts are ones where you write about the process of writing and publication. It's really interesting to see how different people work!

    1. That's one of the things I love reading about on other writer's blogs, Cate. Everyone is different, but I find the process fascinating!

  2. Dear Deborah, it is hard to vote when you are interested in all 4 things! I am writer, I am a solitary, and I love cats! I would like to read more about some nice and easy recipes with magical elements inside.

    1. Ekaterina, you're allowed to vote for them all!

And I can definitely post the occasional magical recipe. Do you have my Witchcraft on a Shoestring book? It has lots of recipes :-)

    2. Deborah, no, I have 'Everyday Witch book of rituals' and 'The Goddess in the Details'. I will have a look at Witchcraft on a Shoestring on amazon:)

  3. I checked them all. I'm no longer an aspiring writer, because thirty years or so ago my muse suddenly switched gears and started sending me visual ideas instead of story ideas. "This! In fabric!" she says nowadays. Sewing is SO much slower. But I retain an interest in the process. I'm also not a pagan/witch (I've yet to come up with a description of what I am) but I have friends who are. One of whom is getting The Witch's Broom for her birthday (after I read it first.) And cats? Always interested in cats. I put Other to include how much I enjoy your mentions (and pictures!) of your house and garden.

  4. Gah! I had to go with all of the above!

I often find myself wondering what readers of my blog are the most interested in, originally, it started as a blog for writing, but there was no way I could possibly come up with new ideas for writing all the time, so I began throwing other subjects in as well. Using the Stats section of Blogspot, I find the tiny handful of posts I have about making a satyr costume are the most popular by far.

What brought me to your blog initially (other than your books!) was the Pagan/witch/spiritual, but I enjoy every aspect of the subjects you write about. The way I see it is that it's more of the writer's voice rather than the subject.

    1. True--I would read Jennifer Crusie's blog if she was talking about her shopping list...

  5. Hmm... well, let's see. I like reading about your upcoming books, because I have several of your books and I think you're an awesome writer. I also like reading about the publishing process from somebody who's on both sides (fiction and non-fiction) and is truly a pro.

However, I especially like your posts about the weather and your region. I've been to the Oneonta/Cooperstown area twice--once on a business trip, and then again on vacation just because I thought it was one of the most beautiful places I had ever been (and still is!). So it's great to vicariously watch the seasons change in central NY through your blog posts. :-)

    1. Ha! There's an answer I wouldn't have predicted. It is beautiful around here--hope the garden pics satisfy some of that!
