Finished! Snow! And Your Feline Friday Fix!

In today's news...

I finished writing the new Llewellyn book, A Broom for Every Witch, last night! Huzzah! (Working title only, of course. These things change.)

Happy dance time!

I'll spend today (and maybe some of this weekend, depending on how long it takes), reading over the manuscript for boo boos [yes, that IS the technical writing term, why do you ask?], and then send it off to Elysia, my fabulous editor. Who started doing her happy dance last night when I messaged her on Facebook to tell her it was done :-)

In other news, they're calling for snow here. A LOT of snow, although not nearly as much as Boston and some of the other coastal areas are looking at. I've seen reports ranging from 6 inches to 16 inches. Er, I'd like to put in my vote for less, please?

On the bright side, I should be home well before the worst of it hits, and have no place I need to be tomorrow, so I should be fine except for the shoveling... And I'm sure it will be pretty. Also, in even more news, it's winter in upstate NY. So, there you have it.

If you live in the area that's being hit by snow, check in and let me know you're okay tomorrow, yes? You know how much I worry.

And here it is, your Feline Friday fix! That's Samhain on top of the pellet stove. She seems to have nabbed it as her spot this winter, and who can blame her? Stay warm! Stay safe! Have a great weekend.

  1. Congratulations--how awesome! I really appreciated your piece on the Cauldron of Creativity in Sagewoman's subscriber newsletter.

Our critters love the pellet stove as well, but no one slees on top of it. Sahain is one smart kitty!

    1. Yay--I'm glad you liked the article. I'm going to spend the weekend putting things on paper into my little cauldron :-)

And yes, she is one smart kitty!

  2. Congrats on finishing the book. Yay!

I hope you don't get too much snow. Just enough for some pretty.

If I were a cat, I'd be curled up on the pellet stove, too. Good for Samhain!

    1. Yay! I still need to do a last read-though and polish, but it looks like a good weekend to do that :-) The snow hasn't started yet (because they closed the schools early and sent all the kids home) but I'm hoping that it is a lot less than they're calling for. I'm voting for 3 inches...

I've had the pellet stove for a few years, and it usually has something decorative on top (like a pentacle shaped stained class candle holder or our Yule log). I'm surprised that no one claimed the spot before, but it might be that Samhain is the only one tiny enough to fit there while there was stuff on it. (I have since moved the stuff to give her more room.) I think it is high enough that she mostly feels safe from Mystic, and she's probably cold because she's sick (and her room upstairs is chilly). Either way, the only downside is that now she hardly ever sits with me!

  3. Hi from Robin in Syracuse NY. We are not in the path of the blizzard, but are getting lake-effect snow instead. Who knows how deep?!
Very excited about your new book!!! Can't wait for it to hit the stores!
Beautiful Samhain looks purrfect on the stove. Tell her to move over for the rest of us!! Be safe in the storm!!!

    1. *waves hi to Robin in Syracuse* Hey--we're practically neighbors! I hope you don't get too much snow.

Yay for being excited :-) I'm always happy to hear that. It will probably be out towards the end of 2014, but since I finished a bit early, who know--maybe they'll move up the release a little. It depends on what they need for their calendar.

      She is pretty, isn't she!

  4. Love the gif. My wife and I both lol'd, as we're fans of "Firefly". 16" to 24" called for out here in the part of Maine I live, and I have an hour to work tonight for a twelve hour shift. I'll be driving in the worst of it to and from work. Yippee!

    1. Yeah, the first time I saw that Cap'n Mal gif, I had to swipe it. It makes me happy :-)

16 to 24 is dreadful! I hope you don't get nearly that much. (And a 12 hour shift is dreadful too--what do you do?)

Stay safe and let me know when you're back home in one piece!

    2. I'm a corrections officer. It looks like we got close to 20", and then the drifting on top of it. Yeesh...what a drive home.

I'm happy for you that the book is done!
I love Feline Fridays. Samhain is a beautiful cat.

    1. Thanks JJJ! So far, it has been a non-event, but the snow if finally starting to fall, so we'll see. I might wake up to a large white vista...

And I'm happy too (although I'm about ready to start on the final polish readthrough which will probably take much of the weekend, so done is really a relative term).

      As for Samhain, absolutely true!

  6. Good luck with the snow. That's something that I don't really miss. When I call my mother and sisters in PA, I get the latest snow measurements and look outside and give a big sigh of contentment.

I would so love to cuddle your Samhain. She looks soft and squishy like my departed Holly was. Give her and your other fur babies and smooch from me.

    Stay warm and safe.

    1. Where do you live now, Cathy? Someplace warm, I take it :-)

Samhain is actually very soft--she still has what I like to call "kitten fur" (Magic the Cat is like that too). Although now that she's discovered how warm the top of the pellet stove is, I rarely get to cuddle her. Hard to compete with a roaring fire!

    2. I'm in south Florida outside Ft. Lauderdale. We have to watch out for hurricanes but we don't have to worry about freezing if the power goes out - just melting in the heat.

Hope you and your kitties are doing okay in the storm.

  7. Samhain is a gorgeous cat! With beautiful orange, black, and white markings. I could hug him! He's so cudily looking.

Yes, congratulations on finishing your book. I absolutely love the title. I, too, can't wait to read it!

    Have fun with the snow!

    1. Vonnie, Samhain is a little girl :-) She only weighs about 7 lbs, so she's a tiny thing, but she makes up for it with attitude and stubbornness :-)

      And thanks!
