Surprise! The Early Morning Version

Upstate NY weather is nothing if not changeable. There is a saying around here: "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute." And it is only partially a joke.

We've had unseasonably warm weather here the last few days. It actually was in the 60's yesterday and Sunday. (Normally, it would be 40's to low 50's at best.) That's kinda nice, except that the ragweed, which normally is killed off by about mid-October, is still hanging around and kicking my butt.

Still, wait a minute...

Here was the sight I saw yesterday morning when I woke up (way too early, because I haven't adjusted to the time change yet). Beautiful, isn't it?

And here was what I saw this morning

SURPRISE!
(And oops...time to start parking the car in the barn again.) And really, still beautiful, just in a different way.

The snow isn't expected to stick, and the rest of the week is supposed to be in the 20's and low 30's at night and the 40's during the day, which is much more what you'd expect around here in mid-November. Of course, the drastic change has the fibromyalgia kicking up, but on the other hand, hopefully the ragweed will finally DIE.

Bwahahahahaha.

On a more positive note, the final polished manuscript went off to my agent Elaine Spencer and four special first readers (waves at Skye, Lisa, Alex, and Judy). Whew. More about that tomorrow. Wait until you hear what I did...

So, what kind of morning did you wake up to?

  1. Woke up to the low 40's, gray, and rainy. The gray and rainy is expected to stay with a high of the upper 40's. Similar weather is forecasted for the next four or five days. I'm drinking a cup of hot tea to get start on the day :)

    1. It might be the first of the season, but I guarantee it won't be the last :-)

  3. Woke up to a cold front pushing into our area bringing winds and rain. Our high yesterday was 73. This morning started out at a lovely 52, but is forecasted to fall throughout the day to the upper 40's. Not that I'm complaining. As long as there's no snow on my car, I'm happy. :-)

  4. I must be near Ms. St.Clair, above, because the same phenomena here. Rain, cool, grey. Of course, there's some pleasure in that, for me, because its the norm for our Novembers on te peninsula.

I've often wondered -- so many of us witchy folk have fibro -- if its connected to our empathic natures? Thoughts?

Enjoy the snow while it lay -- beautiful!

  5. This is exactly what happened to me, but yesterday! On Saturday it was so warm (nearly 68 from what I've heard) that we had huge thunderstorms and even a couple tornadoes touch down in the middle of the night. And then Monday morning it had snowed, was a windchill of 9 degrees, and the streets were ice skating rinks. My freeway entrance was actually closed due to ice because they hadn't been out to salt it yet and it was too dangerous! Winter... it's always shocking the first time of the season.

  6. Yesterday was supposed to be 73 (down from 88 the previous day), but I don't think it got that warm and I woke up to 48 degrees this morning. Mind you, I'm in Houston, so this is cold! I used the heater for the first time this season. I hope it keeps on like this because I'm tired of shorts and sandals. I wanna wear my long sleeved tee shirts and my sweaters! (But I don't want snow. Imagine drivers on snow in Houston. It has happened the past 4 winters and it's about time that it stopped.)

  7. It's still warm here with highs in the low 80s and the lows at night in the 70s. This morning there were patches of sun with a thin cloud cover overall. Early next week the highs are supposed to drop below the 80 degree mark. This is usual for us here in South Florida and the reason the snowbirds are coming south right about now.

    1. Wow. Sounds lovely! Are you anywhere near the water? My one real regret (beside too cold in the winter) is that I am WAY too far from an ocean.

    2. We're about twenty to twenty five minutes from Hollywood or Ft.Lauderdale Beaches. Living on the beach is lovely until you have a hurricane with accompanying storm surges and evacuation orders. So we're inland with a pool and excursions to the beach when we feel the need for waves.

    3. That sounds pretty close to perfect :-)

  8. Ugh, Fibro /and/ allergies! TOTES hear you on /both/ accounts. I suffer from both too. *hugs* Both pix are really beautiful, though. I don't but sometimes kind of do miss living in an area that gets snow. Haven't been outside yet, but if the weather widget on my Yahoo toolbar is to be believed, it's only 37' outside. In North San Diego! @,@

    1. My sympathies back! My parents and sister live in San Diego, and they torture me all winter with weather reports :-)
